Jim stands out among the legends of country music. From his first #1 hit
in 1953, Jim was always high in the record charts until 1969. Even his
untimely death in a plane crash on July 31, 1964, served only to fuel
the mega-star's fame. Jim's already soaring popularity rose to an
all-time high when previously unreleased songs hit the market in the
years following his death. He became so popular overseas that anxious
new fans were disappointed to find out they would never see the man with
the velvety-smooth voice in concert. And what a concert they would miss!
Jim Reeves had mastered the high gloss sound so many fans had grown to
appreciate coming out of Nashville during the mid-1960's. In fact, Jim,
and his plush-sounding female counterpart, Patsy Cline, are the stars
that refined the highly polished "Nashville Sound" that became
so popular during the peak of their short lived careers. Ironically,
Patsy also died in a plane crash the year before Jim's fatal accident.
