Born December 13, 1954, in Orlando, Fla., and raised in Apopka, Anderson began playing guitar at age seven and moved to Nashville to sing with his sister Donna in 1972. After a brief independent-label deal, Anderson signed a singles-only deal with Warner Bros. In 1978, after two years and five singles, the label finally released an album, and Anderson's brand of funky, deep South country caught on like crazy.
