Interviews Miruna from
SILVERWOOD
Silverwood is one of the best and most successful
bands in Europe. During the time negotiations started with Universal
Music Group the band went back to the
studio. It took from the end of November 2003 until the end of May
2004 to record and finish Silverwood's new album "My Side Of
Town", this time in the studio, "House of Audio",
with the support of a wonderful studio crew. In February during the
MDR TV GACMF Gala in Erfurt, where Silverwood was nominated as
"Band of the Year" from the German American Country Music
Federation (GACMF) – the 4th time by now – the first song "Jealous
Heart" from the album "My Side Of Town" was
presented in public. Again this song was written by Heiko Ahrend
and sung by Miruna. The audience reacted enthusiastically, a
proof for Silverwood to be on the right track. It was therefore no
real surprise to see this song to enter and stay at number 1 in
several charts.
Ch.L.: Would you please introduce yourself to the readers and tell us
something about your history?
Answer (Miruna – lead voc.): They call me: Lady Silverwood, but my
real name is Miruna. I am the lead vocalist of the band and a
foundation member of the group SILVERWOOD. My artistic career started
when I was six years old and since then music is a part of my life! I
live for the stage, for touching peoples souls with my music, for
giving them a little bit of heaven by diving in a world of fairytales
to forget their own for a while!
Ch.L.: How was the last year for you? Where there any highlights?
Answer: Last year was the "year of birth“ of our new CD and all
our work was more or less under the sign of this "new baby“!
Ch.L.: What did you do before you got into the music business?
Answer: Don’t remember! was too young!
Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe who may be learning
about you for the first time. How would you describe the music you
play to someone who's never seen or heard you before?
Answer: It’s "SILVERWOOD MUSIC“! It’s pop, country, brit-pop,
jazz, funk, bluegrass, soul, rock – can you describe this in one
word? See? I told you: It’s Silverwood music! You HAVE to listen to
it!
Ch.L.: What is your current CD and how is it doing?
Answer: Our current CD is "My Side of Town“ and the first
single "pocket kisses“ (released in Oct., 2004) still climbs
the charts all around Europe!
Ch.L.: How did you find the title for the CD and what inspired you?
Answer: We write the songs ourselves. There is no better way to
transmit the inspiration of life but by a song that has the power to
carry the message to the heart of the public!
Ch.L.: Please tell us about the songs on your album.
Answer: All you need is to listen to them and then you have to fall in
love with this album! Each song is a story! Stories told by different
people living in different corners of "my side of town“.
Ch.L.: What is the different between your last and your current album?
Answer: The last album was the "live“ album and this one is
recorded in the studio. But comparing "Drive“ with "My
Side Of Town“, the album “Drive” was influenced by more
traditional elements and the latest album "My Side Of Town” is
modern. It’s fresh. It’s so much more rounded up and shows how
much the band has developed since.
Ch.L.: What kind of songs do you like to record the most?
Answer: songs with soul.
Ch.L.: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded
and what's the story behind it?
Answer: My favorite song is "Good Morning My Love" from our
last album. The story: Everyone imagines that actors or singers are
all the time the way we see them on TV or other media and specially
singers sing ALL the time LOVESONGS! But we are "normal"
humans that can express our feelings in songs and put our finger on
the soul of the listener! And that’s what I do with this song: I
address it to someone very close to me!
Ch.L.: How much creative control do you have over your music?
Answer: All the control we need. We write and arrange our songs by
ourselves. PROUD OF IT!
Ch.L.: There's a lot of work that goes into a Number One hit ... what
does it take to make it?
Answer: If I knew it, I’d had one!
Ch.L.: How much do your songs influence your audience?
Answer: People tell us stories about how they can’t wait to wake up
in the morning and listen to songs like "pocket kisses" to
let the sunshine into their hearts.
Ch.L.: The internet is playing a bigger and bigger part in the world
of music. Has the internet hurt or helped you and how would you like
to see it evolve?
Answer: Internet is also a media. The difference is that it’s
developing very fast. We only have to learn to deal with it and use it
to our advantage because internet is the future. It is also the world
of a lot of young people and this is the way to communicate to a young
public. If they like you, you have the chance for you and your music
to survive generations!
Ch.L.: Who do you look up to musically and where do your musical roots
come from?
Answer: When I started playing music, my fist idols where Joan Baez,
Bob Dylan, John Denver, Donovan, and the Eagles! Now I look up to the
pop arrangements of Shania Twain, the wonderful silent sound of Norah
Jones, the beasty rock-energy of Wynona, the unbelievable harmonies of
Diana Crall and the voice Gods of Manhattan Transfer. But I never
forget to be ME!
Ch.L.: What do you think about today's Country Music versus its roots
and where do you see it going in the future?
Answer: It’s difficult to analyze this subject, because Europe is
pretty far away from the center of this factory. But we can feel here
how county music moves over in the mainstream and gets more and more
popular (good for us!) than the roots of this music have ever been. If
I knew where it goes in the future, I’d be sitting here now and be
checking what I can do with all those million dollars I had by only
telling the FUTURE!
Ch.L.: If you had the chance to change something about the music
industry, what would it be?
Answer: Make the music industry be about MUSIC and not about INDUSTRY
!
Ch.L.: As an artist you have to do so many different things such as
recording, touring, doing interviews, etc. What do you like best,
what's your favorite activity?
Answer: I love doing shows, from direction to the final applause! So:
Touring, touring, touring, recording, recording, recording, doing
interviews
Ch.L.: Are you doing anything to take country music beyond it’s
current borders or are you happy where it is?
Answer: I am happy to BE a little bit beyond the borders! It’s made
in Europe, it’s fresh, it’s new!
Ch.L.: How did you get into Country Music ... is there a story behind
it?
Answer: I got into Country Music on a side road! A female singer
couldn’t do a concert to a band I knew. They asked me if I’d like
to help and take a few songs. After the show she stayed home, I got
the job!
Ch.L.: Before you became a star, were your friends and family
supportive or was it a struggle?
Answer: My family and my friends always supported my music and
accepted the difficult life I’m living. When do I know if I am a
STAR?
Ch.L.: Has your journey to success been a hard or an easy road?
Answer: Every road is hard in it’s own way, the main thing is you
have to move on! All the time! Then you live! And living, moving,
getting somewhere IS success!
Ch.L.: What drives you? What inspired you to become an artist?
Answer: Emotions! I love the stage, I love the public, I love to move
people!
Ch.L.: What does it take to be a Country Star?
Answer: What did you say- when do I know that I am a star?
Ch.L.: What's unique about you that differentiates you from other
artists?
Answer: I think it’s the way of entertainment I do. I grip out to
the hearts of my listeners! And I use all what the stage allows me!
ALL!
Ch.L.: What moments in your career stand out in your memory as
highlights and achievements which you're proud of?
Answer: I could write a book about outstanding moments – being an
artist is already something outstanding, you live, you see, you feel
things in a different way! And you achieve a life experience that can’t
compare to any other's life. There are so many moments of glory with
the band, prices, success, but I think the most important thing is
that, like someone said, we wrote a small part of history.
Ch.L.: Who's your biggest critic, yourself or others?
Answer: I have 3: me, myself and I!
Ch.L.: When you get time off, how do you like to relax?
Answer: Time off? What is that, please? I like to relax in the summer
at a lake in the mountains. Without phone, TV or too much action. Just
books and a guitar.
Ch.L.: Is there anything in your life that you would change if you
could?
Answer: Yeah! I’d make this interview shorter! Serious: I live every
day not to be sorry about anything I do!
Ch.L.: What has been the biggest disappointment in your life?
Answer: Opening my heart to "friends“ that weren’t any.
Ch.L.: Many Country Fans travel one time in the year to Nashville for
CMA Music Festival / Fan Fair because of the opportunity to see so
many of their favorite stars at the same time. Will you be
participating and how will the fans be able to find you?
Answer: To all the fans: VISIT GERMANY AND COME TO SEE SILVERWOOD!!!
Ch.L.: Is there anyplace you haven’t played that you would like to?
Answer: Central Park NEW YORK in front of 1 million people!
Ch.L.: Can your European and American fans look forward to seeing you
in concert in the future?
Answer: Yes! Please check up with our web: www.silverwood.net
Ch.L.: What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?
Answer: MUSIC – MAGIC - MIRUNA
Ch.L.: When you're on tour, do you have time to play tourist?
Answer: Sometimes
Ch.L.: Do fans mob you everywhere you go or do they allow you a
private life?
Answer: I respect them and they respect me – in front as well as
behind the stage
Ch.L.: Many music fans today get their information about artists via
the internet. Do you have your own website and what will fans find
there?
Answer: www.silverwood.de
or www.silverwood.net.
Check it out, it’s a lot.
Ch.L.: Tell us about your fan club and how people can join it.
Answer: You can meet the fan club (wonderful people!!!!) at our
concerts, also on our web., and here comes their address: fanclub@silverwood.de
Ch.L.: What are your plans for the future?
Answer: Near future: lot’s of SUPER concerts to promote our new CD
all over Europe and maybe a little bit further and start working
already at the new material
Ch.L.: What's the best compliment a fan has ever given you?
Answer: 6 years old boy:
Boy: you are so beautiful!
M: would you marry me?
Boy: NO!!!
M: why not?
Boy: you are too crazy!
Ch.L.: What message would you like to send your European and American
fans?
Answer: We hope to see you all at our concerts! Bring your hearts with
you!
Ch.L.: Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans that we
haven’t covered?
Answer: Thanks for supporting us and our music! Stage is our bread,
music is our water, but your applause is our air to breath! Thank you
!
Ch.L.: What is the latest news in your career?
Answer: The next single "My Side Of Town“ is hitting the big
times!
